Looking out the window on Friday morning (Feb 21) I saw that we had gotten over a foot of snow overnight and it was still snowing. As I pulled up the window shade I spotted my neighbor already shoveling my sidewalk. Later I saw that he had also cleared the walkway to my front porch. He and another young neighbor across the street seem to beat each other shoveling their neighbors sidewalk. My old and crooked lumbar spine is so grateful for these guys. How can I pay their volunteering forward? Roswitha

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? So glad for those boys, passing on the generosity.

As far as repaying them, I think simple acknowledgment is reward enough. And you’ll find your own way to add more kindness in the world. Snow shoveling isn’t for everyone! Maybe you bake brownies, or help staff the food bank? Anything to spread the care for each other.

Does the sheet-pan salmon with harissa we had for lunch count?

At least your neighbor doesn’t have a skeleton hanging in a cage year round, I mean Halloween is one thing but year round it is a bit obnoxious for the whole neighborhood!

They’re very well behaved.

Maybe well behaved, but is a negative for home values and very creepy

Sorry for your boney neighbor. At least it's caged.
