Ah, the 'great cosmic coincidence' - what a fantastic phrase!

I loved this post - and that you travelled such a long way to bag this latest eclipse - although not as far as next time, right?

I'll never forget the near-total eclipse in London in August 1999. Only Devon and Cornwall in the far south-west of the country got totality - we were a little too far east, but OH BOY, it was incredible! We all climbed up the fire escape to the roof of our office building - nobody had eclipse goggles but I'd made pinhole projectors for everyone out of card so we watched the progression 100% safely with those, and it was great! The birds went crazy. We all FROZE. It was dark, and spooky, and absolutely incredible.

As was this post. Words, pictures, the lot. I love the snap of you at the end there! 😎

Thank you for your torrent of likes and comments this morning! I've got some catching up to do with your, as well! AND you and and I may want to scratch each other's backs by sharing faves from each others' 'stacks. I'm find that people who find me within the app are enthusiastically subscribing, which is fun and helps my numbers. I'll find a few of yours to recommend in the week ahead. So glad to have re-found she who is always lost!

LOL - such a pleasure! Except over here it's this afternoon, of course. 😉 I've had a busy few weeks, ditto the weeks ahead - and today, instead of looking through my inbox piecemeal I thought I'd grab a single writer's newsletter at a time and catch up on everything of theirs that I'd missed! Bit of a snowball of a commentfest on yours today as a result - sorry for the inundation!

Keeps us on our toes. By the way, great photos. Save those glasses for the next sun chase!

I think "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" is my very favorite book of Mark Twain's! I loved that scene, thank you for the reminder. We had a pitiful 95% totality here (no way to travel further north, where it was 100%) and it didn't get much darker than slightly overcast day, but it was still cool watching the moon taking crescent shaped bites out of the sun with my glasses... but not as cool as what you described! Thank you for sharing your experience. Speaking of experience, did your friend's grandkids make use of their newly learned vocabulary during your visit? 😂
