According to the U.S. Geological survey, New York city’s buildings are overweight and descending into the schist. Here are six ways to lighten the load. WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BY PETER MOORE
THE HEADLINE in The Guardian, was alarming.
NEW YORK CITY IS SINKING DUE TO WEIGHT OF IT’S SKYSCRAPERS, NEW RESEARCH FINDS
“The city’s structures, which include the famous Empire State Building and Chrysler Building, weigh a total of 1.68tn lbs, which is roughly equivalent to the weight of 140 million elephants.”
That’s terrible news, with implications for a sea-level city that’s struggling to keep its head above water.
But that’s also an opportunity for a cartoonist, who can envision a whole world of solutions.
For instance….
Fat shaming of prominent (heavy) fixtures.
Jelly, not cream cheese.
3. Even skinnier skyscrapers.
4. A new role for Gwynneth.
5. More personal trainers
6. Fewer elephants.
